Australian Songbook [working title] (2012)
The Hip Mo' Toast Big Band
Classic big band jazz meets classic Aussie rock! This album has grown from the 14-piece Hip Mo' Toast Big Band's annual Australia Day concert where the group performs original jazz big band arrangements of classic Australian rock hits. Presented since 2007, the concept has been so successful that the band is in the process of recording an album of the material. Libby and the boys take listeners on a glamourous and fun trip back in time to experience the explosive sounds of the big band swing era, but in a quintessentially Australian way. Cold Chisel, John Farnham, Hoodoo Gurus, Men At Work, the Little River Band, Paul Kelly, The Angels, Jet and even AC/DC get the Hip Mo' Toast treatment, bringing a swinging, entertaining, funny and sometimes poignant perspective to a repertoire with which all Australians are already so intimately familiar. Launching some time in the future - keep your eyes peeled!
Mischievous Girl (2003)
The Hip Mo' Toast Big Band
With special guests Tommy Tycho and James Flynn
Titled "Mischievous Girl" after a rocking tune by ivory-tinkler and Hammond-master Grant Windsor, it is a fun, party-time album for the more discerning swinger. Five band members have composed and arranged new material for this value-for-money 54 minutes of jazz frolickery, with a few old kooky favourites such as "Mambo Italiano" and "The Theme from the Blob" also making an appearance. Amongst this impressive collection of original gems will be an arrangement written by the one and only Maestro Tommy Tycho especially for the Hip Mo' Toast Big Band.
Personnel: Libby Hammer on vocals, Graeme Blevins, Ben Collins, Troy Roberts, Carl Mackey, Paul Abbott and Lee Buddle on saxophones, Adrian Kelly, Marty Pervan and Benn Hodgkin on trumpets, Michael Cartwright and Jeremy Greig on trombones, Grant Windsor on piano, Simon Jeans on guitar, Shane Pooley on double bass and Ric Eastman and Peter Guazzelli on drums.
